Hosts serve as friends, mentors and, sometimes, extended family for the Summer on the Cuyahoga students with whom they are matched. The time commitment is not great, but the outcome and impact is. Every year, students report that one of the most enjoyable aspects of their summer in Cleveland is the opportunity to meet and form relationships with alumni. The hosts are the bridge between Cornell and Cleveland, and help the students to see Cleveland as a welcoming community, not just another city.
Alumni "Hosts" are not those families who invite students to live in their homes when extended housing is needed. The latter is now referred to as a "Homestay" Family.
The goal of the SOTC HOST ORIENTATION meeting is to bring together as many hosts as possible so they - and our partner schools - have a common understanding of the host's role.
